Josh Provo
The biggest lesson comedy taught me is definitely don’t ever be afraid to be yourself
“Dude thanks for having me, I'm hella stoked to be here and for the show!”
I’m a comedian and skateboarder from Baton Rouge Louisiana who came to Dallas in 2019.
TFAIYo! Thanks for joining us virtually Josh! We have a lot to get to BUT FIRST, let’s talk about your upcoming appearance on TFAI Comedy TV Series! What can the audience expect?
Josh Provo
Dude thanks for having me, I'm hella stoked to be here and for the show! Totally can’t wait to meet the audience it’s gonna be tight! I’d say that they could expect a chill radical time. With some jokes that will definitely have them thinking about it days later. Man I’m getting hyped thinking about it especially after looking at the line up!
TFAIUpon watching a few of your sets, your style is very different, you have a unique pace with your jokes. Tell us how you developed your style
Josh Provo
Thanks big dawg I appreciate that. I developed my style by totally bombing like a lot trying to emulate other comedians haha. A lot of comics I looked up to in Baton Rouge would always say “find your voice”. It took me a while to figure what they ment. Until I just went up one night and just started being myself on stage and it just clicked.
TFAITell us about your first open mic experience.
Josh Provo
Dude shout out my homie and comedy sensei O’mar Finley, we used to work at the skatepark together and he got me into comedy. He also ran the first open mic I ever saw or did at the Spanish Moon back in Baton Rouge. My first time on stage was crazy I had no idea what was going on and people are just staring at you like well you got jokes or not? I told a joke about my grandma catching me and my grandpa watching that bubba sparks video ms new booty and beating the breaks off both of us. It was terrible and I definitely ran the light haha, but the skater in me was like nah we doing this till we get it right. Now here we are nine years later dude time flies.

TFAIWhat's the biggest lesson comedy has taught you?
Josh Provo
The biggest lesson comedy taught me is definitely don’t ever be afraid to be yourself dude. You don’t need to emulate other comedians or have like facade cause it doesn’t work. It hit extra hard when I was talking to an audience member at the bar after a show and she said “you’re way funnier as yourself and not a Dave Chappelle copycat”. I was gone cry when I got in the car haha.
TFAIList your Top 5 comedians to ever do stand up dead or alive
Josh Provo
Ahh this is a hard one but In no particular order. Richard Pryor -(my grandparents had all his specials and movies). Steven wright- (he’s the first comedian I heard with same kind of monotone voice as me). Pat Morita (His style a cadence was one of my biggest inspirations). Redd Foxx ( the swagger and his wild ass style of story telling). Greer Barnes (Dudes just funny).

TFAIWho are the toughest people to make laugh??
Josh Provo
Toughest people to make laugh has to be people who aren’t expecting comedy at a music show. I kind of get it though if you been dancing and turning up to some heat, and they stop all that and say here’s this comedian who you’ve never heard of I’d be mad as hell. Happened to once like my first year in Dallas, it went from a total vibe to total silence longest 10 mins ever. I ain’t even say bye to the host I just slipped out the back and went to the crib and played PlayStation.
TFAIWhat advice would you give your younger self?
Josh Provo
Dude don’t be so hard on yourself, life doesn’t always wanna be your friend it’ll kick you in the dick and keep kicking you if you let it. Shake it off and keep it moving and don’t look back, time doesn’t move backwards so why should you? Relax have fun make all the friends go up to that girl you think is cute and skate as much as you possibly can!

"Dude don’t be so hard on yourself, life doesn’t always wanna be your friend it’ll kick you in the di..."
TFAIAny dream venues or collaborations you're chasing?
Josh Provo
Dude so I already have some dream collabs I was chasing and it ended up working out! We have a rad show at 4dwn skatepark called shred the mic it’s every third Saturday of the month.I also had my own collab beer with Four Corners Brewing Co called Provo vibes cause I be vibing haha. I wanna say im the first Dallas comic to get his own beer. As far as any other venues I’d love to do like Texas theater or anything like that, and collaborations I’m totally open to anything that sounds cool! Would love to do more with skateboarding or like maybe a tv show where I interview different artists and comedians from all around. I’m a total nerd so any video game or anime collabs would be killer.
TFAIWhat's next for you?
Josh Provo
Good question man, honestly just riding the wave for now you know? I’ve been extremely hard on myself recently trying to find a way to make it and now I’m just letting the universe take the wheel. Super open to any cool collabs so if anyone has anything feel free to hit me up! Besides that im hyped for your show this weekend and if yall see me skating around Dallas feel free to say what’s up!
